Using filters to refine your search of the site

Welcome! Today’s post was written as a direct result of a recent visitor’s request. So, please keep the questions coming and we may feature your request in an upcoming video or post!

This post is all about using filters to refine your search of the site. We've included a companion video showing the process or you can continue reading the video transcript below:


In this example, we will search the “Custom Audio Backing Track” product on the yamahamusicsoft.com website and further refine our search by specifying “Country” music to see the available products for that genre.

We will start our initial search from the homepage. First, we’ll navigate to the “Menu” located in the upper-left hand corner of the homepage. We’ll open the menu bar, select “Songs” and then select “Custom Audio Backing Tracks” from the menu:



This will open a results page and show us all of the available songs in this product category. By default, the page will be pre-sorted to show the most recently added titles first. (You can change this view by selecting “Position”, “Name”, “Price” or “Most Recent” from the “Sort By” drop down menu.):


Now that we have the initial results page open, we can refine our search further by selecting additional refinement categories in the column on the left-hand side of the page. For example, I can further refine my search by selecting “Country” music in the “Genre” section and see all available titles in that genre:


Once the page refreshes, we see a revised search result and can confirm our newly selected choice under the “Currently Shopping By:” section. I can click on the “x” to reset the genre filter and search by a new genre type:


In addition, each results page throughout the site contains additional information about our results including the choice to view by cover art or list, re-sort the results as mentioned earlier and view, at a glance, how may results by the current “items per page” and the total number of items included in our refined search results.

This method of filtration and organization of search results is carried through to the rest of the site so navigation and organization is consistent throughout all product categories.

Where to find expansion packs for my instrument

Today’s installment covers browsing expansion packs and selecting the compatible version for your Yamaha instrument. Whether you have a Yamaha Synth or Arranger Workstation (Tyros or PSR-S/A Series), we’ll show you how to find packs quickly on yamahamusicsoft.com.

Let’s start again from the home page. You can browse the available packs for each instrument in a number of different ways. One way is to navigate to the menu bar in the upper-left hand corner of the home page and select “Sound & Style Expansion Libraries”:


A second way is to select your instrument from the middle of the home page. I have a PSR-S770 Arranger Workstation so I’ll pick the “Tyros, Workstations & Keyboards” instrument category in this example and follow the steps the see the available expansion packs for my instrument:



Once I arrive at the “Voice & Style Expansion Packs” results page, I’ll select my instrument from the “Your Instrument” section to filter the Expansion Pack results to only show those compatible with my instrument. (Please refer to this previous blog post for instructions on how to select your instrument):


Now that I’m on the expansion pack results page for my instrument, I can select an individual pack and get additional details including product descriptions, audio/video demos and a description of what is included in each pack (called “Pack List”):


This particular pack (Indian 2) displays a number of .mp3 sound demos that I can preview and if I scroll down further on the page, I see a video demo:

Scrolling back up the page, I see that my selected instrument is displayed under the “Your Instrument” box and it is pre-selected as the recommended version. I’ll go ahead and purchase this pack to continue with today’s tutorial example:

This pack has now been added to my cart. From here, I continue with the checkout process and the pack will be automatically be transferred to my account:


Once in my account, I can download the pack to my computer and install the pack into my instrument.

How to purchase and listen to songs on my Clavinova

We continue our series of tutorials today by exploring the site further. Specifically, we will take a look at the Clavinova instrument category and discover the products made exclusively for the Clavinova, how to locate specific products, make a purchase and install a song into my instrument.

Let’s begin by navigating to the Clavinova home page on the yamahamusicsoft.com website.

  1. Click on the “Clavinovas & Digital Pianos” instrument category under “Select Your Instrument" on the home page:


  2. Click on the “Clavinova CVP” instrument sub-category:

  3. You’ve now reached the Clavinova CVP home page. From here you can get an overview of this instrument along with unique Yamaha products made especially for Clavinova:


  4. In this example, I’ll select the “Follow Lights” product category to browse the available songs for my Clavinova:

  5. I’m taken to a results page that shows me all available products for Follow Lights:


  6. I’ll select the “Game of Thrones Theme” from the results page which will take me to a product detail page for that title:


  7. I would like to purchase this product so I select “Add to Cart”. However, I need to add my Clavinova instrument model FIRST to confirm that this title is compatible with my instrument. I navigate to “Select An Instrument” located below the “Add To Cart” button under the “Have a Yamaha?" box:

  8.  The “Instrument Compatibility” pop up guides me through the Clavinova instrument category where I can select my specific model. In this case, I’ll choose the “CVP-709”:





  9. Once I’ve selected my model, I’m returned to the product detail page with my instrument selected:

  10. I can now check out by adding this product to my shopping cart:


  11. Once in my cart, I can proceed to checkout. When my transaction is complete, the product will be in my account and ready for download to my computer:

  12. Once the file is on my computer, I can copy the product to a USB thumb drive and install the product into my Clavinova using the "USB To Device" port on my instrument:

How to redeem promotions at yamahamusicsoft.com

In this week’s installment, we take a look at how to redeem promotion codes on the new yamahamusicsoft.com website.

We’ll assume you are logged into your account, are in the checkout phase of your purchase and are now ready to apply your promotion code. In this example, we’ll use the free song redemption when you sign up for the Yamaha MusicSoft newsletter (If you are not a current subscriber, click here to sign up and get your free song).

Once you’ve added your product to the cart and click on the cart link you will see the "Promo Code" section in the lower left-hand portion of the screen prior to final check out. You can add the code you received previously via email to this box, select “apply” and the promotion code will be applied to your purchase:


When successful, your cart total will be adjusted and you will see the discount amount applied.

(Tip: Remember you must be logged into your account and using a valid, unexpired promo code. Unless your promo specifies a number of products, make sure there is only one item in your cart.)


Complete the checkout process. (If you are redeeming a free product promotion, you will not be asked for any credit card information.)


After checkout, you will see an order confirmation page. Download the song by clicking the “Download” button. (Your song is also available for download in the “My Library” section of your account.)

Troubleshooting 

If you get an error message that your coupon code is not valid, make sure you are logged into your account with only one item in your cart:


If you log in and the coupon code is still not valid, you may have already downloaded your free MIDI song. Check your order history by going to "Order History". From there, you can search for one of the free MIDI songs, or if you didn’t purchase anything else your order total will be $0.00:


When you click "View Order", you will be able to see the name of any promo code applied. If "Free MIDI Song" is listed next to “Discount” under the “Subtotal”, you've already used your free download:


It is also possible that your promo code has expired. The promo code expiration date is on the bottom in your email. If your promo code for your free song has expired, please contact customer service for a replacement promo code.

In addition, make sure you copy the promo code exactly as it appears (without any extra spaces).

Finally, the promotion may be "country specific" so if your redemption is not working, you may need to fill out your billing address in your account settings so the system recognizes the promotion code as valid.
