Yamaha Musicsoft Downloader - Your Access To A World of Music And Content

Are you one of our many keyboard owners that would like enjoy the songs and styles found on our site, but have discovered you need Musicsoft Downloader to do so? If that’s you, then this is your opportunity to find out where to get it and how to use it!

Musicsoft downloader is computer program that allows your keyboard to connect with your computer and transfer music and other content. This application is not necessary for those instruments that have a “USB to Device” port, because files can be transferred with a common USB flash drive. But for those instruments, such as a PSR-E343 keyboard, which only have a “USB to Host” port, Musicsoft Downloader is your key.

With this free PC application and a simple USB printer cable, you can purchase and download content from our site, then transfer it to your keyboard for playback.

The interface is easy to use, and works seamlessly between instrument and PC.

If you’re ready to get Musicsoft Downloader and begin a whole new level of musical enjoyment with your instrument, then start by going to the Yamaha Download Page.

On this page, enter your instrument model number, and click Search. Once the search results are displayed, click on the link to your instrument model:

The results will show all of the available downloads (assets) for your model.

Click on the Musicsoft Downloader file name

Once downloaded, install it in your computer. Then connect your computer to your keyboard with a common USB printer cable.

Launch the application and follow the instructions.

You are now connected with Musicsoft Downloader.

Happy Music Making!

  3. My P-155 manual devotes several pages to the use of Musicsoft Downloader as the best way to protect my songs and keyboard setups. But your site says P-155 is not compatible with the software. Please explain?

    1. Hi TR - thanks for the feedback. We will get that model on our site as soon as possible. Actually, since your model has a USB-to-Device port, the most efficient way to transfer content purchased on YamahaMusicSoft.com is to put it on a USB thumb drive and insert the drive into your instrument. Since your unit has primarily piano-type sounds, the compatible downloadable products would be PianoSoft Solo (http://www.yamahamusicsoft.com/en/category/PianoSoft/catalog?keyword=&delivery_method[0]=Downloadable&series[0]=PianoSoft+Solo&currency=USD&sort=most_recent). They are great piano performances of a variety of music.

    1. Currently, Yamaha's MusicSoft downloader utility only works on PC. Unfortunately, we don't have a Mac compatible version at this time.

  6. I didn't manage to use it with my CLP150 which doesn't seem to be recognised by MSD (but the USB link is ok as I can use it with a seqencer)

    1. Hi Bill,

Actually MusicSoft Downloader is a program to transfer content between your computer and keyboard. Unfortunately, it is not for recording. There are computer and mobile applications for recording depending on your device and instrument. Can you tell us a little more about your set up? What model keyboard do you have, and what computer system do you have?

    1. Correct, Rex. It does not work on the PSR-E243. Sorry about this. For a list of all assets related to that keyboard, visit this page:

  9. What's the best way to get a SMF file (saved to USB from a CLP 240) into an electronic recording format for PC playback or mixing e.g. mp3, wav? Is there a recommended conversion application?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There are many MIDI to MP3 converters (search MIDI MP3 converter in google)... However, without good piano samples, you won't have a good quality.
A better way is to open the MIDI file on a DAW (Reaper, Mixcraft, Ableton Live Intro, Cubase Element to name a few) and use a virtual piano (Ivory, Pianissimo - one of the cheapest but I havn't tested it...) to render the file. However, the result will not be the same of your Clavinova. Both Repear and Pianissimo are available as an evaluation demo.
With a Clavinova which doesn't produce WAV file, the only accurate way is to replay the MIDI file on the piano and record the LINE-OUT.

  11. How does Musicsoft work? How do Midi files work and styles? I have a Yamaha DGX-640 and I would like to know how it works. I have been playing music for 20 years, and I still play. I am looking for Windows 8.1 on my laptop, my Mom's laptop is Windows 10. I was wondering what styles are like (if they are fillers/background music), and do you have any international styles like Indian(Bollywood styles, etc), Sri-Lankan, oldies (50s, 60s, 70s, etc.) Thanks in advance.

  13. Musicsoft doesn't work for my PSR-E353, are there any other programs I could download to transfer the music from my keyboard to my PC?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hello, In terms of "transferring music to your PC from your PSR-E353", are you trying to transfer MIDI songs from the instrument to the computer? If so, you should be able to transfer via the "USB to host" port on the back of the PSR-E353 to your computer with a standard USB cable. If you have more specific questions, you can reach out to customer support here: : http://www.yamahamusicsoft.com/en/help.
      Thanks!

  20. Hello, can anybody recommend a software that I can download to open PPI files from two different Extension Packs to convert them to STY files

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hello Unknown, Unfortunately, Yamaha does not have a software product (including Yamaha Expansion Manager) that allows you to convert .ppi data to .sty. However, you may want to contact Jorgen at http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/yep/. He has created a software tool that appears to do what you are asking. Please understand that "Jososoft" is not endorsed by or affiliated with Yamaha so the user explores this option at their own risk. Sincerely, The Yamaha MusicSoft team

  22. Hello, I realized I couldn't purchase any CUSTOM AUDIO BACKING TRACKS because my Piano P-140 is not supported. Why is that my Piano is not supported? Are we discriminated against because we are too cheap, beginners or unwanted?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hello Unknown, Thank you for your inquiry. Custom Audio Backing Tracks can be played back on any device that supports .mp3 playback. Your instrument is showing up as "unsupported" in this instance because the P-140 does not have an .mp3 player built in. Therefore, you can still download the .mp3 of the song and play along on the P-140 while the song plays back simultaneously on your computer or smart phone. The Yamaha MusicSoft team

  24. Hi, I downloaded the Musicsoft Downloader to transfer recordings/files from my YPG-235 to my laptop. I know it is compatible with the software but, when I try to run the program, it only lets me cancel it. I am using a male USB-B type connector. Why won't the Musicsoft Downloader software open and/or run?

  25. Hello! I'm having a problem with running Musicsoft Downloader on my computer. Once I've installed it using Setup Wizard, it only creates the files in the MSD folder. Once I go to run MusicSoft there, it only gives me information such as copyright, and nothing else. What should I do?

  36. Jose, The missing functionality for MusicSoft Downloader (MSD) has been repaired on the Yamaha MusicSoft website. The MSD application has not changed so, if you've previously downloaded and installed MSD on your computer, there is no update required for MSD itself. (There is no need for an update to the current version available on the download site).

If you have purchases or have already purchased a PSX midi file, then now MSD should be able to write that song to a floppy for use in your instrument. If you do not have the file in question, you can re-download the file from your account, run it through the MusicSoft Downloader app and everything should work fine. If you are still having difficulty, please contact customer support. Thank you.
