New PianoSoft! The Queen Of Soul: Aretha Franklin!
Aretha Franklin has one of the most instantly recognizable and imitated voices in soul music. The sheer power of her voice places her a head above the rest, with her unmatchable ability to sing extremely low and extremely high notes with strong, breathy tones; rarely ever drifting into falsetto. Franklin's undisputed most successful recording "Respect" (written and orignially recorded by Otis Redding) skyrocketed her to international fame in 1967.
Before this, Franklin's label struggled to find appropriate material for her voice. Initially, the label gave her jazz-influenced pop songs a la Billie Holiday, and girl group oriented tunes like "The Shoop Shoop Song(It's In His Kiss)". Though Franklin had no trouble handling these musical styles, she would find success later when her gospel roots mixed with the R&B mastery of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section to create some of the most revered soul music of all time.
