Digital Music Notebook Karaoke

Using your Yamaha Instrument and
Digital Music Notebook
for Karaoke

With New Year's here you may be looking for ideas to entertain friends and family without leaving your home.
Of course, a performance on a Yamaha keyboard is always a greatd source of entertainment, or you can check out fun karaoke feature which is sure to get everyone involved!

With Yamaha's Digital Music Notebook you can easily turn your keyboard or computer into a karaoke machine - check below to find out how.

There are two ways to sing along with karaoke features using Digital Music Notebook. First, you can sing along with the playback on your computer. Here's how:
  1. Go to the Digital Music Notebook website to download the free Digital Music Notebook player
  2. After installing the player, click on the "store" tab towards the top of the screen use the keyword search to find your favorite Karaoke songs!
  3. After adding all of your selected songs to your cart and checking out, the songs will be automatically downloaded into your Digital Music Notebook library
  4. Click on the "my library" tab to find your newly downloaded songs, and click on one to load it
  5. The sheet music for the song will appear in the player window. To set up the song for karaoke, click the tools menu at the top of the screen, and click Karaoke
  6. To start singing along, press the play button at the top right of the player window, or click "show play controls" to open the full controls
You can also use the Keyboard Sync feature to transfer songs to your keyboard, and use your keyboard's karaoke function to sing along. To do so (for more detailed information, click "Keyboard Sync Setup" under the "How It Works" menu in the "Store" tab of the Digital Music Notebook player):
  1. First make sure that your keyboard is Keyboard Sync compatible. Click here to see a list of compatible instruments.
  2. Next, make sure that the songs you want to transfer are also compatible with Keyboard Sync. To find out, check the song either in your library or in the store tab, and look for this icon: Any compatible songs will show this icon either in "Action" column of your library, or the song's description in the store tab.
  3. With a compatible instrument and a compatible song, you're ready to transfer the song to your keyboard. You can do this either using a USB Flash Drive or a USB Midi Connection. The first step is to either insert your USB Flash drive into your computer, or connect your keyboard to your computer with a USB cable.
  4. Then, click the icon in the "Action" tab next to the song you want to transfer.
  5. In the side bar that appears, choose your USB flash drive or keyboard connection in the "Sync With" drop down and click "Start Sync".
  6. After the transfer is complete, the song will be loaded on your drive or keyboard. Either call up the song from your keyboard, if you used a Midi Connection to transfer, or insert the flash drive into your keyboard, and load the song from there.
  7. Press the "lyrics" button on your keyboard to display the lyrics for the song, press play, and you're ready to sing along.
But that's just the beginning. Once you've got your songs ready for karaoke, there are a number of other ways to enhance the sing along experience.
  1. For the ultimate karaoke evening, connect your instrument to your TV via the Video Out jack on your keyboard, and read the lyrics on a big screen.
  2. Hook up a microphone to your keyboard and use it with all your keyboard's sing along feature and effects - add reverb, or test your pitch!
For more information about your keyboard's karaoke and sing along features, please check your owner's manual.

Exercise On Demand

The new "Exercise on Demand" service for the CLP-300 series is the latest piano learning innovation from Yamaha. The service, which launched earlier in the fall, provides instant, online access to practice guides for a wide-range of piano methods suitable not only for beginners but for students of all types, up to advanced level pianists.

So what’s so different about using Exercise on Demand for practice, rather than just practicing? Exercise on Demand uses all the great features of your CLP, along with interactive guides for lessons you’re already working on, to help you effectively practice the piano. With normal practice, you’ll need to first acquaint yourself with the music, then methodically go over the piece until you get it right – trying out different tempos, repeating difficult passages, or practicing left and right hand parts separately.
Exercise on Demand makes all of these aspects of practicing easier and more effective. For each lesson you can listen to professionally played examples, play along while muting the left-hand or right-hand, to focus on individual parts, or raise or lower the tempo to meet your practicing needs. You can also set the playback to repeat a specified section of the piece continuously so you can isolate difficult parts and practice until you’ve got them down.

Free trial practice guides are available, but the premium service, which is available for monthly or annual subscription, adds the “My Exercises” feature to save your playlist of methods you're currently working on and gives you access to over 400 interactive lessons.

For more information, or to sign up for a free Exercise On Demand Trial check out the links below.

What's New on Yamahamusicsoft This Week - New Styles and Songs

This week we're happy to announce the release of over 100 new songs and styles from our friends at Midi Spot studios in Denmark.

Billy Joel and the Rolling Stones are among the artists covered in this update, and the new styles include swing beats and auto accompaniments to help you play your early rock and roll and Elvis favorites.

We've also got new Yamaha song files, including Os Mutantes's "A Minha Menina", which you've probably heard in this McDonald's commerical, and some Christmas favorites - "I'll Be Home for Christmas", "Silver Bells" and the Beach Boys's "Little Saint Nick".

The new files come in a variety of formats, so whether you're using a workstation or a portable keyboard, you'll be able to find what you're looking for. These can be downloaded easily from yamahamusicsoft, or directly on your instrument through Internet Direct Connection.

Click here to see the full list of new files, or click below for here for new styles or new songs.

We've also released two new PianoSoft disks this week: Beach Boys Best in PianoSoft Solo format, and the Smart PianoSoft accompaniment to Nat King Cole's holiday masterpiece, A Christmas Song.

See all new PianoSoft here.

Yamaha Artist Elton John Tours With Billy Joel

Earlier this week the top selling artist in Yamahamusicsoft history, and proud partner in creation of the Yamaha Red Piano, Elton John, announced a co-headlining world tour with fellow Yamahamusicsoft favorite Billy Joel.

The tour is planned to start in spring 2009, and will feature John and Joel performing both seperately and together.

The superstar pairing has a history of touring dating back to the "Face to Face" tours that the two embarked on between 1994 and 2003. Specific dates for the 2009 tour have not yet been released, but expect a full announcement soon.

Of course, if you can't wait to see these two together in concert, you can always tide yourself over with songs from Yamahamusicsoft.
